Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Help

My son was in the car involved in a shooting, someone was killed. I advised him to go down and clear his name and tell them who did the crime. He and his wife decided to first go and see a lawyer, paid $3000. The lawyer then called the detectives told them about his client and that he was willing to tell the story and give up the shooter, but for imunity they refused, the lawyer sent him home and told him to just keep quiet. A year and a half later Monday Aug.5, 2007 he is arrested and now charged with first degree muder. My question is, was this good advice? I can't help but think that I tried to lead him in the right direction in the beginning. I also would like to know did this lawyer give him bad advice? If so, what can I do?

Re: Help

You did lead your son in the right direction, but your son also was right in going to a lawyer first. If the district attorney refused immunity in exchange for testimony, it was because he or she felt your son's involvement was too great.

If you believe the lawyer gave bad advice, you can contact the Office of Attorney Regulation at the Colorado Supreme Court.

Good luck, and I'm sorry for your son's dilemma, and for the grief you must be feeling. I hope to hell he has a good attorney now.
