Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

my son is serving a 8 year sentence for drug possions/intent to sell. because it was in two sm bags. after 5 years he just got his first parole hearing and was turned down. He will not get another hearing for a year! What can we do ? anything?

Yes, there are things which you can do. The inmate can even be released to the community (halfway house) NOW. What is needed is a referral by his case manager for re-integration prior to parole. A good relationship with the case manager is necessary. The inmate also needs a solid, written parole plan. The inmate should not have gone before the parole board without such a written plan. I have had good luck with case managers. When my clients go into parole hearings, the parole board already has copies of DOC success "packets" and parole plans. I argue in support of the parole plan. Usually, parole reacts positively. Many inmates eventually get parole without doing such a plan. "Eventually" means years later. If you want to get release faster, you have to develop a good parole plan and talk to case managers. I do that.
