Right to a speedy trial ?????
Can someone explain the right to a speedy trial?I recieved a ticket the first of January.I have qualified for a public defender in one county in the past for my special needs sons problems. When I applied for a public defender in the other county I was denied because of equity in my home.I had a special hearing in which the judge told me i had done a great job with reasearch and had more than satisfied the court and was court ordered a public defender. The public defender has again denied me and I have another court date again to determine if I get a public defender. The right to a speedy trial has been brought up and I am just wondering what exactly that means thanks

Re: Right to a speedy trial ?????
Besides the constitutional guarantee of a speedy trial, Colorado has a statutory speedy trial period. The local gov't where the offense occurred may have its own "speedy" provision. The period can be six months or 90 days. The clock starts once you appear before the court and enter a "not guilty" plea. It s quite possible that you have not done that yet.
