Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Spousal Rape/Domestic Violence
I am getting divorced from an abusive husband. I was emotionally abused, physically abused, and sexually abused during my marriage. I was held down and raped many times throughout my marriage even after repeatedly saying NO. He is in the army and the military was no help to me and the local police weren't any help either. They tended to side with the military in all the situations. My question is...Since I am now out of the marriage and away from my soon to be ex (where I can no longer be threatened or hurt) can I file charges against him for rape and domestic violence? I have been told by some friends that there have been recent cases where a spouse has come forward years later and filed rape charges against the husband and won. I have finally realized that all the abuse wasn't my fault and I do NOT want any other women to go through what I have gone through with him. He deserves to be punished and to get help before he hurts someone else. I appreciate your help here. I'm not sure how to go about any of this
