Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Stolen Car
I have a former girlfiends car that I have been using for the last 2 years. Recently we split up but agreed to sell me the car for 500 dollars. I gave her 250 and we agreed to me paying the balance. Now she is asking for her car back because her vehicle was repossed. My problem is she is in arizona and im in Denver. I had someone that was going to drive it to her but she recently reported it stolen. Ive asked her to take it off the stolen list so it can be retuned but she refuses. She thinks that the vehicle is still in AZ. I havent told her the car is in Denver because I dont want her coming here. She has a little bipolar issue and gets very angry. Any suggestions on this issue. Im very happy to get the car back to her. Thank you

Re: Stolen Car
first, get proof that she intended to sell the car to you for $500. Maybe you have the cancelled check for $250? Maybe you have a letter or email from her. Maybe a friend heard this conversation and can write a statement.
You could send her a check for the remaining $250 with a letter saying that this completes the payment of the car and requesting title. Send certified. If she cashes the check, then it is a done deal.
Finally, you can contact the police in AZ and indicate that you hear she has reported the car stolen. You can tell your side of the story and say that you are happy to give her the car.
If you do that, I would have an attorney help you to make sure it is done correctly.
Any and all statements should be made in writing only and you need to keep a copy and proof of your sending or mailing.
This can be a felony with lots of trouble on your end before it goes your way. Be careful.
