temporary restaining order

is this under criminal law, and if so does that i mean i can ask for a public defender

If the restraining order is meant to protect a person from any contact by you, violation is a criminal offense, and because jail time is a possibility you can apply for a public defender.

Is someone in the process of getting a restraining order or violating an existing restraining order? Violation is criminal, you can get a PD. Getting an order is civil. No right to PD.
