Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Ticket and Court

I recieved a ticket and was told I needed to show up for a court date or I would have a warrant out of my arrest. I was wondering what having a warrant out for my arrest entails, does it only apply to the state I recieved the ticket in, and will the warrant be out forever? Thanks!

Re: Ticket and Court

If a ticket, it is likely not a serious offense. A bench warrant will issue. If you ever get pulled over while driving, the warrant should come up and the cop will arrest you. If you are out of state, and the warrant is non-extraditable, you will not be arrested. If you are arrested and booked, the jail will likely release you once they contact the court that issued the warrant and learn that the court will not pay to extradite you. If arrested on a weekend, you should be out in a couple days. Still not good.

It entails that your ski vacations in Colorado are no longer carefree: if you are stopped by police for any reason, the warrant will show and you will be arrested.

It is unlikely that anyone will extradite you from out of state on a ticket. A warrant will apply for 100 years or until you die, whichever comes first.

Let me know if you beat the 100 years.

Good luck.

Re: Ticket and Court

You will need to deal with it sooner or later, better sooner rather than later. The warrant will be out forever until some day a cop stops you and finds out about a warrant. You will be arrested.

You will always obtain a better disposition if you appear voluntarily.
