Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
Troubled Teen
I have a 13 year old daughter who is causing a lot of trouble. I recently learned that she involved an 8 year girl in cutting/self mutilation. It appears as though she disccussed this activity with this young girl and showed her how to do it. Now this 8 year old girl is cutting herself. My question is, what can happen to my daughter for this? At this point, the parents of the 8 year old girl have been informed of what is going on but I need to know what type of ''legal'' trouble we may be in for with my daughter.

Re: Troubled Teen
It is not against the law to cut on yourself, or to talk with another person about cutting on herself. If by "showed her how to do it" you mean your daughter did the cutting, she would be subject to a charge of assault.
It doesn't sound like you have a legal problem - yet. You do have a mental health problem, and if you have not done so yet, you need to get your daughter -- and probably you, the father, and any others of your children -- into therapy. Usually where there is a troubled teen, there is a troubled family.
Good luck.
