Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado
I am unemployed but have a large stock fund. Can I get a public defender so I do not have to use my mutual fund account

Well, you can probably get one if you do not disclose the stocks. But, it is potentially fraud. I have heard DAs threaten to file charges against people that lie on the PD application. I have not seen it done.
The PDs have enough work to do dealing with the truly poor. Why not hire an attorney since you can. I can say that when I was a PD, I probably represented lots of people that could probably have hired an attorney. I know my other clients would have preferred I had more time for them.
Ultimately, this is a moral question.
