It is not your choice, but the prosecutor's. Now there are ways to make the prosecutor dismiss or have lots of trouble prosecuting. But you will probably need a lawyer. The more you tell the DA to drop the charges, the more likely they will actually subpoena you to court, so discuss with an attorney before you talk with the DA.
The alleged victim of DV cannot prevent the state from bringing charges, but the alleged victim can prevent the state from convicting a defendant. However, if the alleged victim is served a subpoena to testify, they can lose the ability to prevent a conviction. Talk with an attorney before you ever speak with the DA, and certainly before you accompany the defendant to court.
