Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

''Not the victim, but it was my identity!?''

My 19 year old brother stole my social security number and used my name to get some credit cards. He racked up over $1400 in less than a month. I have been trying to get someone to do something about this but I have been told that I am not the victim because I lost no money but my identity has been stolen, my mail has been compromised, and since this is my brother, I am afraid of what he might try to do to me next, since everytime I see him he does something worse. The biggest conflict I am running into is that this all happened in Colorado, I have since moved to New Mexico and he is currently in Central Florida.

Isn't there anything I can do to put my brother where he belongs? I want to press charges if at all possible.

You can call the police to file charges and you can call the national credit reporting agencies to report the problem. The credit agencies will flag your account and will ask for additional information should anybody apply for credit in your name. The police will either file a report or will lead you to other resources to solve the problem.
