Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Warrant

I have a check fraud/theft warrant in colorado, I was picked up on that warrant in tennessee and held for 10 days in which colorado never picked me up, I have recently moved to arizona and found out that colorado removed any extradition on the warrant, my question is will the warrant disappear after so long, the warrant was issued in 1999? Or will the warrant remain active until I am arrested?

Warrants,unless canceled, remain on the books forever. If you are apprehended in CO for some reason such as a traffic stop, I would expect the warrant to pop up on the computer at that time. The sure way to know about the warrant is to contact the clerk of court for the court which issued the warrant, and find out the status of it.

It really depends on if it is a felony or misdomeaner warrant. Typically, felony warrants stay active and you can be extradited. Misd. warrants may fall off given the amount of time. Each county is different and has a review process for their active warrants. My advise is come back to Colorado and take care of this case. If you don't, you run the risk of being arrested upon any contact with law enforcement, the court system or any other government offical.
