Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Will a deferred judgement for a felony effect employment?

My boyfriend pleaded guilty to a felony in exchange for a deferred judement. He did not commit the crime but did not believe he could win the case. This just happened last month. Now, he is up for permanent employment at his job and they are going to do a background check. How will this show up on the record? Do you know if it is common for employers to deny employment based on a deferred judgement? Is it a conviction?

Until the conditions of the deferred are met, it will show as a conviction to a felony. Yes, it is common for employers to deny employment due to a felony conviction. If the conviction (the guilty plea) was had in colorado, he can move the court to seal the record. He cannot seal it until the deferred conditions are met and the case is dismissed.
