DUI convictions never go off one's record.
His options depend largely on the facts of the case, and what jurisdiction he's in.
As far as punishment, you can get up to a year of jail on a DUI. In most of Colorado's counties, most judges will sentence him to a very long term, if not the entire year, if he's convicted of a 6th offense. Work release is possible, but not likely. The ultimate answer depends, again, on the facts of the case and the location.
Your friend needs an attorney.
These do not go off his record. Colorado law has sentencing requirements that will require jail time based on previous offenses. Also, the DA is likely to come at him hard based on the number of priors. Although work release is possible, the number of priors makes it less likely. He really needs a good DUI attorney to help him. Mr Cassens, who also responded is a great DUI attorney.
agree with Clifton and Damon - if he is in denver metro or northern area, have him contact me - great lawyers are found at www.ncdd.com - he is looking at significant time and license loss, but these cases can be defended and the right lawyer can make help a lot with sentencing
