On misdemeanors, the SOL is 18 months. But, that only applies to the date the case is filed in court, not to when the trial is held. So, if the officer filed the case with the court and friend did not go to court or failed to go to court, SOL does not apply.
On many DUIs, the case is closed and warrant canceled after a few years, but not all. I am working on a case in Golden that is from the late 90s.
