Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado
name change
My biological father passed away when I was younger and my mother was remarried sometime later. My stepfather adopted me so my last name changed to his. Now their marriage is annulled and I want my name changed back to my biological father's name. How do I change my name back? Is there a way that I can make it happen without it looking like it ever changed? Do I have to use the same court district as where the adoption happened?

Re: name change
You will need to file a petition for name change. You can't make it look like it was never changed, but going forward it will be your new (in this case also prior) name. You do not have to use the same court where the adoption occurred. It is filed as a separate case, so you would file in the District Court in the county you reside in.
