Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado
Child Custody (Parenting Plan)
My Ex-girlfriend just served me with Parenting Plan paperwork that basicaly read that she has all the rights and descisions over our four year old son. I have not been able to see or talk to him in three years. Is this the same as signing over my parental rights? What options do I have at this point?

Re: Child Custody (Parenting Plan)
You need to get a lawyer in the state where she's filed the action. I take it that's Washington.
This should not be the same as "signing over your rights". But you have to exercise your rights by being a father to your son.
The next thing that will happen is that she will ask for, and get, child support.
There's going to be a fairly hefty arrearage. The sooner you get that dealt with the better it will be for everybody.
She can go back five years.
You can choose what you decide to do, but your best option is to contact the County Bar Association in the county where she has filed the action and get a referral to a LOCAL attorney who can help you.
You don't have to come her to do this if you have a lawyer. But have your own proposed parenting plan that includes time for you with your son.
Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
