Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Child Custody

I have been paying child support since I found out I had a daughter, which was when she was two months old. She is now 8 months old. My daughters mother and I are trying to work things out but she uses our daughter against me and I want to know if I have to get a lawyer in order to see my daughter. I do not make a lot of money and I would rather spend what I do make on my daughter. We already had a blood test taken and I was proven to be the father and then child support was assessed. Can I just go to the court house and do this myself?

Re: Child Custody

Some judges will listen if you represent yourself. A lot won't and will cut you off. I usualy tell people it's a lot like doing an appendectomy with a pocket knife. It can be done but it's not very comfortable. If your daughter's mother wants a fight, you'd best go in ready to fight.

Many of the courthouses in the Denver area provide offices that can help you with the paperwork at no charge.
