Child Custody

In the states of colorado and oklahoma, I need to know the laws pertaining to custody of children. My son(Co.) is having a baby by a woman in Ok. (originally from Il.) she says he has no rights b/c they aren't married. What rights does he have and what steps before the baby is born shoulf he to get rights.

Re: Child Custody

He needs to establish paternity, through a parentage proceeding though court. He does have rights. His chances of getting custody vary based on the state, but he will at minimum be entitled to visitation. You should have him contact an attorney as soon as possible. If the woman is in Oklahoma, it's probably going to need to be an Oklahoma case, but it wouldn't hurt for your son to consult with a Colorado family law attorney to start.
