Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

child support

Not ever seeing a divorce decree and knowing child support was owed. Child is now 26 and they are coming back on child support payments. Is their statue of limitations on this and can they come back for the full amount. They have been in contact several times but never said anyhting about past being due. We believe child wants to get back at dad for not paying.

Re: child support

There isn't really quite enough information here to answer. If a Court Order was entered, my answer to you is they probably can come after you for the whole amount. Once an Order is entered, there is no statute of limitations on collecting child support. They can come back for the full amount plus interest, if the Order was properly entered originally. The mere fact that you did not see it does not in itself mean that it was improper. Feel free to contact me to discuss it in more detail.

I don't know under Colorado law. Who is going after you, the parent or the District Attorney's Office in Clark County.
