If I didn't pay child support in the past but I--name removed--paying now, can my ex have me thrown in jail?

Re: Child Support
To put it more accurately, if there was a court order requiring you to pay child support in the past, which you did not pay, you still owe arrears. If you owe arrears, she can come after you in a couple of different ways. She can file a contempt of court motion and ask the court to make you get caught up, and she can ask the court to punish you, which can include fines and jail time. In the alternative, she can go to her local Child Support Enforcement Unit office and ask them to enforce the order. They have more tools at their disposal, including the ability to have your drivers license suspended and to take your income tax refunds before you ever see them.
Best advice to you? Set up a repayment plan with her where you're catching up those arrears. When you do, get it in writing and both of you sign it and each of you keep a copy.
