Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

childs rights concerning child custody

My parents are divorced, and the summer of 2000 at age 14 turning 15 I finally got to stay with my biological father for the summer in Montana. I wanted to stay with my father. My real mother won't let stay with my father. So, in the State of Colorado at what age at what age can I decide what parent I want to live with?

Re: childs rights concerning child custody

1. You must be 18 to make that decision;

2. At age 14 you may express your wishes which will be honored but not necessarily followed by a judge who will decide what is in your best interests;

3. Your father can return to court to request modification of custody to provide him with primary physical custody of you, and you could testify in that proceeding.
