Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Divorce in progress

This divorce was filed in July 07 and is still dragging on in May 08. Do I need to reveal any personal information about my current life style such as job status? I lost my job in Dec. 07 and have not had any luck finding a new job with the same benefits and compensation. My soon to be ex's attorney has given my attorney papers to admissions for losing my job and why I haven't found employment yet , is this any of there business?

Re: Divorce in progress

As I'm sure your attorney has already advised you, yes, they are entitled to know about whether or not you are working and whether or not you have found new employment, as well as the pay and benefits of any job you may acquire. If you fail to disclose this information now (or any other significant financial matter), for as long as 5 years from the date you get your final orders, he can come back and have the entire case reopened. This could result in having a different allocation of assets and debts. If the Court finds it to be particularly egregious, it could also include penalties against you personally.
