Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Divorce

My son is divorcing his wife. Her parents have lots of financial resources, but we are struggling. They have demanded that we help finance their daughter and our two grandchildren. I am reluctant: any resources I give directly to her free up her parents' resources for attorney fees and nick my ability to help my son should he need attorney fees. They filed child abuse charges (surprise, surprise!) two months after he filed for divorce. When DFS didn't find for them, they asked for an investigation of the investigator and filed a criminal complaint themselves. Given the resource disparity and their proclivity for lawyers, I felt I need to hold my meager resources in case my son needs help in keeping his attorney in the game. I don't want to see justice administered by money because he can't afford to defend himself. Our resources are meager enough that we can't afford to spend all to help maintain her and the boys and still have enouggh to assure his continued representation. Am I being stupid, or tight, or have I analyzed this accruately?

Re: Divorce

You are under absolutely no legal obligation to support her or the children. Under the circumstances, I find it very nervy of her to be demanding such a thing of you. I think most people come to the same conclusion you have under these circumstances.
