My name is Alexandra White and I'm an associate with The Harris Law Firm. Thank you for posting your legal question with LawGuru.com.

Child support orders entered after July 1, 1997 that do not contain a provision for postsecondary education expenses cannot be modified. In other words, if your support order was entered after July 1, 1997 and it doesn't say anything about postsecondary expenses, the court does not have jurisdiction to order the obligor to contribute to those expenses.

If your support order was entered prior to July 1, 1997, you can ask the Court to order the obligor to contribute towards post-secondary expenses.

I hope that this information is what you are seeking. If you would like more information or would like us to assist you in seeking an order for post-secondary expenses, please feel free to contact us directly. Our firm offers a 45 minute consultation for a flat fee of $150.00. I would be happy to meet with you in person.

Once again, thank you for posting your legal question.
