What do I need to do so that I am not responsible for debts that he incurrs

You need to file for a divorce or legal separation immediately. Technically, you can still be held liable for any debts he may incur before the Decree is entered. That cannot occur sooner than 90 days after the date you file. However, if you file immediately, you may be able to persuade the Court that any debts he might incur after the date he left you should be treated as his separate debt.

It would be a good idea to obtain the assistance of counsel.
