Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Juvenile rights

At what age can a juvenile move out from his parents in Colorado? A friend of my son's is been having a lot of problems with his step-father for a couple years and he has come to stay at our house temporarily. I'm unsure how to advise him of his rights.

Re: Juvenile rights

Your question, as phrased, is really not a legal matter. A child can live with someone other than his parents at any age, subject to his parents' agreement. However, I suspect you're really asking about emancipation, when a child can make his own decisions.

If his parents are letting him stay, then it is fine. If he wishes to be emancipated, he needs to be prepared to show the court that he can support himself and take care of himself.

If he wishes to go through this process, he needs to consult a family law attorney for more guidance.

He may also consider whether he might be able to live with his father instead.
