Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Legal Marriage

I was married in Colorado and recently moved to Kansas. We obtained or marriage license thru the DMV and signed our on marriage license with no Witnesses signatures nor any authority. We then filed the marriage license with the Araphoe county courts. My question is: Is our marriage legal within another state such as Kansas without witnesses signatures.

Re: Legal Marriage

Please consider that my response has not been researched, however, my opinion is that the analysis would be, "Was your marriage recognized as 'legal' by the State of Colorado?" If so, the State of KS would respect CO law. If your documents were deemed to be faulty in the State of CO, then KS recognizes common law marriages if the following considerations are true: Did the parties to the 'marriage' hold out to each other and to the general public that they intended and believed they were married to each other? Did they report taxes on a joint basis? Did they hold joint checking, savings, investments?

Hope this helps. . .I do not know what is required on a certificate of marriage in KS...any clerk of a court could show you such a document, however.
