Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado
If I have been married for nearly 30 years and have always stayed home with the kids, how likely is it that I will have to go to work? My husband makes a good income and I would like for spousal support to continue indefinitely. In Colorado, how likely is it that I will be able to do this? Will the judge expect me to go to work even though I have several remaining teenagers at home?

It is very likely the court will expect you to work. Generally, the only exception to this is for parents of very young children. Maintenance (a/k/a, alimony) is based on a formula in Colorado. In a 30 year marriage, you should expect to get at least 15 years of maintenance. The formula is 40% of his income less 50% of your income (even if it's minimum wage - what you can do and earn can be fought about a lot). There will likely be child support he has to pay as well if he makes more than you. I hope this helps.
