Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

Am I paying to much child support

What is the maximum amount I should be paying for child support? I make $47,500 a year and I am paying $600 per month for one child. I just feel this amount is ridiculous.

Re: Am I paying to much child support

Child support is calculated according to state guidelines, and it is based on the income of each party and the number of overnights the child spends with the parent paying child support. Without knowing the number of overnights or the other parent's income, I don't know if your child support amount is too high. However, there is a calculator available through the Colorado Courts website, and you can make your own determination about what child support should be. Here is the website:

There may be other factors, such as day care, or it may be that the other party is voluntarily unemployed, and income should be imputed to that party. Depending on how long ago the child support order entered, it may be a good idea to have it reviewed by an attorney to determine whether a change is in order.

Best of luck to you!
