Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

do I need to return my engagment ring?

I live in Colo Springs, CO. I was dating a man for 3 yrs. He proposed, gave me a ring and 6 months later he broke up with me and never spoke to me again. He never asked for the ring back. Eleven months later I get a letter from his attorney demanding the ring be returned. If he would have just asked I would have given the ring back. Now I am angry and hurt... I cannot afford to retain an attorney but he can being well off financially. Please help!!!!

Re: do I need to return my engagment ring?

The general rule is that if you were the one who broke the engagement, you must return the ring. If you were not the one who broke the engagement, you do not have to return the ring. However, I would suggest that you consult with an attorney about your specific case, to make sure there is not something else to consider.
