In order for a 17-year old to obtain a marriage license in Colorado, the teenager must have either parental consent or judicial approval. If the teen's parent's are still married or together, both parents must consent. If the parents are divorced, the parent with custody must consent. If the teen cannot obtain parental consent, then she must petition the district court for judicial approval. In this legal proceeding, the court still must give reasonable notice to the parents prior to approving such a petition.

The judicial proceeding will take time.
