Legal Question in Medical Leave in Colorado

Caring for a chronically ill child

My company does not have 50 employees and therefore does not offer FMLA. I have a chronically ill child who is facing a third and final liver transplant. I have to take time off because of hospital visits, ER visits, etc. My company is trying to force me to quit. Is there anything leave that can protect me? Is there anything I can do?

Re: Caring for a chronically ill child

At least as it relates to federal laws, from what you have said there seems to be little protection. However, in many states employment rights are protected by state laws as well as federal laws. Sometimes those state laws grant you more protection than the federal law does. Therefore, it would be worth talking to an attorney in your state who handles labor and employment matters.

If you are looking for such an attorney, one resource is the website www.nela.org.
