Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Colorado

false employment promise

I am a recently separated US Army war veteran and I have a question concerning a civil law suit. The reason I left the Army at the end of my contract after nearly eleven years was that I was promised a job with a company owned by the father of a former Soldier of mine. This former Soldier of mine claimed to speak on behalf of his father and their parent company. He had promised me a job with a new security contract here in Colorado, yet he keeps telling me that their is another hold up. He says that the contracts are signed and the money is in place then he stopped all communications with me and others that he had offered jobs to. My question is whether I can take legal action against this individual for the financial hardships I have endured being unemployed since last December waiting for this job. As I said, he claimed that everything was in place to start this job then he stopped communicating with all of us who had been told that we would be working on the contract. I thank you for any information that you can give me.

Re: false employment promise

Morning,

Sorry to hear about the problems. You may have a basis under either a contract or for detrimental reliance (promissory estoppel). As with everything in the law, it really depends on the facts.

Contact an attorney to discuss the issue. Good luck.
