Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Colorado
Found wallet at private club
My husband found a wallet at our yacht club, he return the wallet to the club house, but took the money. Personnel want to the man whom own the wallet and apologized.
Later that night the club called him telling him that they seen him taking the money. They seen it on the cameras, he denied it saying it was his money that he took out of his wallet. My husband ask them to show him, so he when to the club. Retuning to the club he found out that every one at the bar seen the video. Embarrass, that everyone at the club seen the video he did not return the money that night, but did the next day.
For his punishment the club took away his eleven year seniority, ban him from the club for a year, put him and three years probation and told him the pay $1,000.00 to the clubs childrens Christmas club.
I feel that this is a harsh punishment!

Re: Found wallet at private club
If I read what you write here with just a modicum of understanding, you are saying your husband stole somebody's money. Depending upon the amount of money, he could have been charged with theft and spent a year or more in jail or prison.
Unless he suffered a mental impairment at the time he stole the money, I'd say club management went pretty gently on him. My guess is that most of your fellow club members value their trust in each other more than your husband's dishonesty. Evidently management is willing to believe that dishonesty is an aberration, else they would have kicked him out altogether.
