Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Colorado

Neighbors are taking us to court because their dog attacked ours, but theirs sustained injuries of approx. $850. We tried to settle with them but the wife was unreasonable. Now they are asking for approx. $950 including court costs. We have witnesses that would testify that their dog attacked ours. The information in the petition is incorrect also as far as facts including the age of our puppy. What are my rights? Can I settle this before 3/17?

If they filed a suit (I assume this is small claims) and you have been served with that suit, your rights are to appear, bring witnesses and defend against the claim. The judge will then decide. You can only settle if the other side agrees to settle. If they don't agree, you are going to trial. The inaccuracies on the petition (the dog's age) are not relevant and will not stop this case from proceeding.
