Questioning of minors

Is it legal for a court investigator to question minor children without prior approval of the parents?

Yes, it is legal, but it is quite unwise and a public relations nightmare, isn't it?

If the children were suspects in a criminal situation then their statements would be elgible to be thrown out if they were unaccompanied by an adult representative.

But witnesses in a criminal investigation can be questioned without an adult representative present.
