Legal Question in Immigration Law in Colorado

hello. I have an immigration question.

My mother has been living with my stepdad for the past 6 years.They met here in the US. She's 46 and he's 27. They're not married theyre just living together.My sister,(16 years old) and I,(23 years old) live with them also and have never been married.We're fro Mexico.We've been living here illegaly for 10 years and have never gone back to Mexico.half of our lives we've been here.My stepdad is an US citizen.he's the only one one livin legally in the us in the family. Can we fix our legal situation by my stepdad? would he have to marry mi mom legally? would he have to adopt us?

If your US citizen stepdad marries your mom it may help you and your sister, however it will be complicated and will take some years. Your stepdad will not be able to directly petition for you because you are over 18. He might be able to for your sister if he and your mother marry before she is 18. Your mother will have to petition for you after she gets her green card and since you are over 21 you will be in the 3rd preference category (LPR mother, adult child) and the wait for a visa will be over 10 years.
