Legal Question in Insurance Law in Colorado
I was recently rear-ended. The drivers' insurance company proposed to total my car and offered me 6,387.00. I can't get a decent car for that amount that I know will be as dependable as my car. I have a dozen reasons why I need more money from the insurance company. How can I appeal their decision? What are the chances of getting approx. 8,000.00 from them? I'm not trying to be greedy or get rich. I just want a car that I can depend on that is equivalent to what I had.

Request a copy of the "appraisal" from the insurer so you have the details. Then get an auto trader and several Sunday want ads for used cars. Look online for comparable vehicles. Then you will have a framework for showing the real value of your car. Don't just go by what the insurer's volume appraisal companies show in their computers. And you are better off doing all of this in writing with the insurer, it takes more time but it is far more reliable. Good luck.
