Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Colorado

Copyright of mailing lists found on the web

Can I use membership lists (names and addresses) acessible via the web? These wre compiled by an entity which has placed a copyright mark at the bottom of the list.

I thought names and addresses were excluded from the copyright protection.

Dear LawGuru User:

I know of no exception to copyright laws for names and addresses. You may be thinking of the exception for titles of books, movies and other works.

However, I am still uncertain about whether this is a complete and accurate answer to your question. I would therefore need to do research in order to definitively answer it.

Please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for using LawGuru.

Sincerely,
