Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Colorado

How long does copright protection last on published material?

My published material was used without my permission.

Does anyone know what the Colorado common law copyright protection law is? Are all copyrights only for 3 years--or is that for 3 years from the date of the first--name removed-- I also thought that once a material was published, there was no time limitation on a copyright--even though there was no registration or federal copyright on the material that had been published.

Copyright protection, in general, lasts for the LIFE of the author (not on the date of death but at the end of the year of death) + 70 years. (This is after 1978, prior to '78, it was LIFE + 50 years).
