Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Colorado

How to work out licensing of copyrighted material for a charitable organization

I am a volunteer for a charitable organization (non-profit). I'd like to run a fundraiser for them using a specific basis. This being a television show from the 1970's. I'd like to offer tshirts, hats, etc... with all profits being directed to the charity. How can I get started (and accomplish it all) in finding out how to get permission to print copyrighted images on merchandise and on a website? Should I try to retain a lawyer to guide me through this or is this something I can do?? For example, I'd like to print tshirts with the television show's logo and pictures of the main cast members. How can I do this without violating any laws???

Thanks!!!

you need permission. start writing letters on the charity's letterhead asking for permission. A lawyer might be helpful but you can certainly get started now without one.
