The HR department of my company is threatening me with unemployment unless I submit my I9 documentation that they neglected to collect when I started 20 years ago. Is this grounds for a lawsuit?

They can ask for your I-9 documentation. Under immigration law, every individual hired after November 6, 1986 must present evidence of employment authorization to their employer. Also, every employer must examine and record this evidence on a Form I-9.
