Legal Question in Employment Law in Colorado

Payment for a job

I hired on with this company,to drive their truck. My first trip was from Denver,Co. to pick up a load in Salinas, Ca. The truck had numerous defects the biggest being the brakes were self adjusting, but would not adjust. I had several 6% grade mountains to cross and I actually had the brake go to mush crossing into Nevada going down a hill.I quit my job when I arrived back in Denver. That was on 8/4/02. I still have not been paid for this job. What are my rights. How should I proceed. Thankyou in advance;

Re: Payment for a job

I assume that you have requested payment directly from your employer and that they have given some reason not to pay you. If that is the case, then it is time to hire an attorney or attempt to sue in small claims court.

There are both Federal and State wage acts that require payment for work. These laws, along with your employment agreement, are the basis of your claim. Gather documentation of your work, employment agreement etc and save it in a safe place. Something that will be especially good evidence is some documentation that you delivered your load to its destination in California - the reciept or what ever you might have.

First contact the company's payroll department and demand payment. If that does not work, then call me.
