month to month lesse
my one year apartment lease reciently came to term. the landlord knocked one day and told me to pay a higher amount for rent. the lease states i have become a month to month resident ''...at a monthly rental payable in advance equivalent to the last monthly installment...''. the lease has no auto renewal statement. I have paid month to month for september and october. i have paid and he has accepted these payments. do i have any obligation to pay him more than the amount stated in the lease? thx

Yes you are obligated to pay the new lease rate if they provided notice in the appropriate time frame for the following month.
A month to month lease allows them to change the amount and terms with notice and allows them or you to terminate with notice. The notice period should be stated in the lease. They could not have changed the rate during the original term (say for a year), but once it is month to month they can certainly change the amount.
