Small claims collecting unpaid rent

In Colorado small claims court, how long do I have to file a claim in order to collect unpaid rent from an individual who has moved out of my rental property? Is there a request I should make of the judge to help guarantee I will collect from this x-renter?

Afternoon,

You have 6 years for actions for arrears of rent and 3 years for contract matters. Does not matter which court you file.

As for the letter, don't bother. You serve the party, file the complaint, hopefully prevail and then try to collect. This last part is the hardest. Good luck.
