Someone came to my job and served another employee my summons which was then passed around until it got to a memeber of management which finally got to me. besides being completly embarrased is it legal to do that?

It depends. If it was for a district court matter it can be served at your usual place of business, with your secretary, bookkeeper, manager, or chief clerk. If it is a county court case it is even more broad and can be left at your office with the clerk or other person in charge or, if there is no one in charge, "leaving it in a conspicuous place therein." I have no idea about small claims.
So you need to know which court and how it was served. You can get a copy of the return of service which should be on file under your case. Call the court and ask. Good luck. Contact an attorney.
