Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Colorado

over-paid by mistake

I resigned my from my teaching position for career advancement. Instead of direct deposit, my last scheduled paycheck was mailed to me. Later that month, I received a letter saying I was issued one extra paycheck due to office error and want me to make arrangements to return the money. Because it was in the past tax year, they are willing to agree on an amount that wouldn't be onerous to me. The gross amount was $1110.48, the net was $863.07.

Do I hold legal obligation to pay back the money? If so, what amount would I return (considering taxes, office error)

I am a responsible person with the intension of doing the right thing. I hold a personal grudge agaist the administration, and if I didn't have to return it to them, I would prefer to donate to the school, not the budget.

Thanks for you time!

Re: over-paid by mistake

If your accounting agrees with theirs, then you are not entitled to keep any of the amount, although if they agree to take the lesser amount, then pay that as accepting their offer of compromise.
