Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Colorado

Hiring of 'Handyman' to do remodel project...payment and liens

I hired a highly recommend 'handyman' to do some remodeling on a home at an agreed upon amount per-hr. Each day, when he walked in the door, I wrote the time on the calendar as I did with the time he left. We have a big disagreement on hours worked and he has threatend to lien the property. He did some electrical work (which he is not licensed) and 'by mistake' did $3500.00 in damage to various electronics on the premise. (I have repair and replacement reciepts). We had also traded him about $1000.00 in personal items from our storage shed which was to be counted in his hours. He denies this and told me we just 'gave' him the items.

He admits doing the electrical damage (he touched a neutral to an out-of-phase hot circut) saying 'accidents will happen, what if I would have been killed.

I have paid (in cash) more than the hours that I have logged and with the trade and damage he owes me a great deal of money.

He also did plumbing work...a great deal of it...without a license.

Much of the work is not to 'code' although I gave him the various books, left notes and told him verbally he was doing wrong. He continued telling me I did not know what I was talking about.

Hapless handyman problem

Quick! Get a lawyer and sue him before heliens your property and before he sues you.Otherwise, your credit will be ruined. Youshould be able to get an injunction from thecourt to prohibit his liening your real estate.
