Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Colorado
I paid a double security deposit of 2,100.00 and a double pet deposit of 600.00 and another pet deposit of 300.00 as well as my rent through march 2012. I was asked to leave after two noise complaints. There was pooh damage to the floors and some holes dug in the back yard. The landlord is refusing to release any of my money to me until the damages are calculated. Can he legally keep my deposits and rent money?
1 Answer from Attorneys
The landlord must follow the security deposit statutes to the letter. As to the damages claim, I think the figures they may claim are likely dubious.
You should contact an attorney and provide them the lease and other information and they can advise you about your rights and the best way to fight against any incorrect damage claims.
Good luck.
